STORYLINE
For historical dramas set in dynastic periods, China and Korea consistently produce some of the most captivating stories. One such story is "The Matchmakers," directed by Hwang Seung Gi and Kim Soo Jin, set in the Joseon dynasty. The story centers on a young widower and a young widow who attempt to solve the problem of unmarried adult women in their royal territory.
Our main characters are Sim Jung Woo (Ro Woon) and Jung Soon Deok (Cho Yi Hyun). Jung Woo, who is respected for his intelligence and charm, finds himself trapped in an unexpected marriage with the princess, a decision made by the kingdom.
However, tragedy strikes early in their marriage as the princess passes away, which makes Jung Woo a widower and bound by customs that forbid remarriage.
Meanwhile, Soon Deok, who lost her husband, the second son of the first deputy prime minister, also suffers the same fate as a widow. Through coincidence, Jung Woo and Soon Deok meet and form a deep bond of friendship.
Together, they embark on a sincere mission to serve as matchmakers, connecting single men and women so they can build a happy marriage.
