Beautiful Boy

Inspired by two memoirs, Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction by David Sheff and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff, Belgian director Felix van Groeningen made his first English-language film, "Beautiful Boy," in 2018.

This American biographical drama explores the turbulent father-son relationship between David Sheff (Steve Carrell) and his son Nic (Timothée Chalamet), which is severely tested by Nic's drug addiction.

David, a single parent, struggles with their strained relationship, especially after discovering Nic's experimentation with illegal drugs, which led him to a severe addiction to methamphetamine.

Despite the challenges, David remains committed to supporting Nic in his battle with addiction, leading to multiple rehab attempts. However, overcoming the addiction proves difficult, and for a time, it seems like all hope is lost. Eventually, Nic finds the strength to strive for recovery once more, buoyed by the unwavering support of his family.
