STORYLINE
"Hymn of Death" is a tragic romance drama adapted from the 1991 series "Death Song". Unlike typical Korean dramas that have many episodes, the series starring Lee Jong Suk and Shin Hye Sun tells its story in only 6 episodes, focusing on a dense and emotional narrative, as hinted by the title.
The drama follows the tragic love story of Yun Sim Deok (Shin Hye Sun) and Kim Woo Jin (Lee Jong Suk). Woo Jin, a playwright, works to present interesting shows to the Japanese soldiers who occupy Korea at the time. Although he is already married, he struggles with loneliness and is unhappy in his marriage.
One day, he works with the first soprano of the Joseon era, Sim Deok. At that time, he immediately falls in love with her. However, their love faces relentless challenges and obstacles.
In the end, they decide to suicide together while Sim Deok's song Praise of Death beautifully accompanies their final moments. It should be noted that this story is based on true events, which makes things even more heartbreaking.
