STORYLINE
The English Patient, a film adaptation of the novel with the same title, returns to captivate its audience. This epic romantic war drama made a significant impact at the 69th Academy Awards, securing 12 nominations and winning 9. Its compelling story even caught the attention of the BBC, which plans to adapt it into a television series.
The narrative unfolds with Hana (Juliette Binoche), a nurse arriving in a part of Italy torn by the 1944 war. Surrounded by loss, with everyone she cared for perishing in the conflict, Hana feels isolated. She chooses to stay at a church to volunteer, caring for a patient suffering from severe burns and partial memory loss.
Hana plans to leave once the patient passes away. However, it turns out that the patient she's treating (Ralph Fiennes) is making progress. As they get closer, an Intelligence Agency agent named David Caravaggio (Willem Dafoe) reveals the patient's true identity. Who exactly is the patient?
