STORYLINE
Set in the turbulent 1920s during Japan's colonization of Korea, this drama tells a powerful story of resistance and heroism. During this dark era, the Korean people suffered greatly under the Japanese military's brutal acts of mass murder and rape. The movie focuses on a group of bandits who dedicate themselves to protecting their fellow Koreans and fighting for their nation's independence.
These rebels operate in Gando, a place where no law prevails and authority is absent. This lawlessness leads to rampant and uncontrolled behavior by many gang members in the area.
The protagonist, Lee Yoon (Kim Nam Gil), once served the Japanese military, carrying out the killing of his own countrymen accused of treason. Haunted by guilt over his actions, he eventually abandons the Japanese forces.
Transformed by his remorse, Lee Yoon becomes a bandit committed to safeguarding the people of Gando, even at the risk of his own life. His journey becomes more complex as he encounters various characters with different motives and backgrounds in one city. The story tells how Lee Yoon navigates these complexities and what lies ahead for him in his fight for justice and protection of his people.
