Refrain

The "best friends who turned lovers" storyline is a common trope in fiction, but "Refrain," an adaptation of Winna Efendi's novel, gained significant popularity due to its cast of young rising stars.

The movie tells the story of the friendship between Niki (Maudy Ayunda) and Nata (Afgansyah Reza). Although they have been friends since childhood, Nata secretly has feelings for Niki, but he never finds the courage to confess his feelings. When Niki started dating Oliver (Maxime Bouttier) in high school, Nata could only support her in silence.

Niki doesn't realise the meaning of Nata's existence at first, besides being her best friend since childhood. However, when Oliver cheated on her, Niki realised that only Nata who is always there for her and loves her sincerely.

Unfortunately, when Niki confesses her feelings, Nata has to go to Austria. They are separated with no certainty about their relationship. However, Niki does not give up; even though it is a bit late, she is determined to meet Nata by following him to Austria.
