STORYLINE
"Pemandi Jenazah" (loosely translated as "Morticians") directed by Hadrah Daeng Ratu, is a film that reveals a dark secret held by those who perform the sacred task of bathing the deceased. The film tells the story of Lela (Aghniny Haque) who takes on the respected duty of preparing the dead in her village.
Lela initially works alongside her mother, Mrs. Siti (Djenar Maesa Ayu), a veteran in this line of work. But when her mother passes away unexpectedly, Lela is the one who's responsible for continuing the tradition.
When Lela bathes her mother's body, she notices something unusual. Oddly enough, following her mother's passing, a series of deaths start happening in Lela's village, leaving everyone puzzled. What could be the cause of all this?
Based on a true story and penned by Lele Laila, "Pemandi Jenazah" is more than a horror movie. It challenges us to think about the deeper meanings of death and the spiritual aspects associated with the ritual of bathing the deceased.
