STORYLINE
Oldboy is the second installment in the Vengeance trilogy. While the trilogy's stories aren't directly connected, they all explore the theme of revenge. The film focuses on the life of Oh Dae Su (Choi Min Sik), an ordinary office worker who is abruptly kidnapped and confined in a room for 15 years.
During his time in lock-up, he learns from TV news report that he is now a fugitive, wrongly accused of murdering his own wife. Triggered by this revelation, Dae Su is determined to take revenge on those responsible for his abduction.
After 15 years, Dae Su managed to escape from his confinement. Eager to unravel the mystery surrounding his abduction, he meets Mi Do (Kang Hye Jung), a sushi restaurant waitress who helps him in solving the mystery.
Oldboy has been honored with numerous international awards, including at the Asia Pacific Film Festival and the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Its compelling narrative and unique storytelling also inspired a Hollywood remake, released in 2013 under the same title.
