Meg 2: The Trench

In the sequel to the first movie, the Zhang family's ocean research center, Mana One, continues its deep-sea exploration. They are keen on studying the ecosystem of the Mariana Trench, so they bring back Jonas (Jason Statham) to lead the team.

However, their expedition encounters problems once again, this time due to an illegal mining operation on the seabed. The mining, which uses explosives, damages the thermocline layer. This important layer separates the deeper parts of the Mariana Trench from the rest of the ocean.

This damage lets ancient sea creatures, which should have stayed below the thermocline, get into the open ocean. They start chasing Jonas's team and also threaten a resort full of guests. The team's original exploration mission now becomes a huge rescue operation. They need to save the people at the resort from these ancient creatures, including giant octopuses with sharp fangs, prehistoric amphibious dinosaurs, and the enormous Megalodon.
