Edge of Tomorrow

The plot of Edge of Tomorrow might not be entirely new, as it's based on the Japanese novel "All You Need Is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. What stands out, however, is Tom Cruise's character. This movie marks a rare role for him as he starts off as a coward but becomes brave as the movie goes on.

In the film, Cruise's character, Cage, is terrified when he's suddenly assigned to fight in a war against aliens. With no experience in combat and unfamiliar with even holding a gun, Cage is overwhelmed. As his fellow soldiers prepare for battle, Cage opts to flee from the alien onslaught.

The alien attack forces all countries to come together and send every soldier they can, including Cage. He ends up dying in a big explosion with the aliens but then something strange happens: he wakes up and it's the day before the battle again. This keeps happening every time he dies.

A female soldier named Rita (Emily Blunt) notices this and helps Cage. They come up with a plan to use this weird time loop to try and stop the aliens.
