STORYLINE
"Carol" is a story of a hidden romance between two women in New York during the early 1950s. It's based on Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt." Therese Belivet, an employee at the Frankenberg supermarket, meets Carol Aird, a customer searching for a Christmas gift for her daughter.
Carol is struggling with her own issues at home. She's in an unhappy marriage with her husband, Harge, and feels a connection with Therese right from their first encounter. As they spend more time together, their relationship deepens into love.
Things get tricky when Harge finds out about their relationship and files for divorce. He uses Carol's secret romance as leverage to gain custody of their daughter.
Confronted with harsh social norms, Carol and Therese choose to challenge expectations. They are willing to take chances for the sake of their love.
