Women From Rote Island

As both director and writer, Jeremias Nyangoen dedicates this film to victims of sexual harassment and violence, and to parents fighting for justice for their children in East Nusa Tenggara. The film tackles this sensitive issue as its main plot.

Set in East Nusa Tenggara, the story follows Orpa, a mother patiently awaiting the return of her eldest daughter, Martha. After working as a migrant worker in Malaysia, Martha returns home to pay her last respects to her late father.

However, Martha's return is far from joyful. She comes back mentally unwell, leaving Orpa confused about what happened to her daughter. It is revealed that Martha was sexually assaulted while working abroad.

Now, as the head of the family, Orpa must be strong and keep her family together, including caring for Martha.
