STORYLINE
The Two Popes is a 2019 biographical drama that tells the story of two key figures in the Catholic Church: Pope Benedict and Cardinal Bergoglio. The story begins with Cardinal Bergoglio (Jonathan Pryce) deciding to resign from the Vatican on the seventh anniversary of Pope John Paul II's death.
This decision surprised many, including Pope Benedict (Anthony Hopkins). He then called Bergoglio to find out why and to persuade him to stay, but Bergoglio was firm in his decision, believing that the Vatican needed change.
Pope Benedict couldn't do much except hope for the best for his colleague. After a lot of discussion, the two reminisced about the good times they had shared and watched Benedict's favorite TV show together. Meanwhile, Pope Benedict and other officials tried to find the best way forward.
