A Guide to Watch The Hunger Games Movies in Order

Written by Gerryaldo

It seems that the title of The Hunger Games trilogy needs an update, doesn't it? This is because the series, set during the annual Panem event and created by author Suzanne Collins, has a new addition. Before, we followed the journey of Katniss Everdeen, a young girl forced to participate in the brutal Hunger Games.

However, now fans have the chance to explore the origins of the Panem event. Unlike before, where we saw familiar faces like Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, and other notable characters, this new chapter introduces us to a completely different cast and picks up into the history behind the games.

With this new addition, The Hunger Games series now consists of five interconnected stories. To avoid any confusion and to support your viewing experience, we will guide you through the correct order to watch these movies. This way, you can enjoy the full story from its beginning to the latest chapter during your movie marathon this weekend.

This film serves as a prelude to The Hunger Games series and marks the first chapter in the saga. In a world ravaged and transformed into a dystopian society, a new nation named Panem rises, inhabited mainly by the elite from wealthy families. Among them is the prominent Snow family.

Coriolanus 'Cory' Snow (Tom Blyth) becomes deeply involved in the 10th annual Hunger Games of Panem. He is assigned the role of mentor for District 12, represented by a young girl named Lucy Gray (Rachel Zegler). Cory, known for his intelligence, skillfully earns the support of the wealthy families in the Capitol, securing sponsorships for the competitors.

These sponsorships are crucial as they provide assistance to the chosen participants during the games. Despite facing numerous political challenges that threaten many, Cory steadfastly backs Lucy. Together, Lucy and Cory embark on a journey to expose the dark underbelly of Panem and the true nature of the Hunger Games.

Set 64 years after the 10th Hunger Games, the story introduces us to Katniss Everdeen, a brave young woman who volunteers to represent District 12 in the 74th Hunger Games. She is teamed up with Peeta, a fellow district member.

As the game's brutal rules dictate, all participants, known as tributes, from every district are forced into a deadly battle where only one can emerge victorious. Katniss faces numerous challenges and endures great trauma, from the loss of a young ally to evading adversaries from other districts.

In a dramatic turn of events, only Katniss and Peeta remain standing. However, the game's rules suddenly change, declaring that there can be only one winner. Outraged, Katniss decides to act defiantly, threatening to end both her and Peeta's lives, which would leave the game without a victor. This act of rebellion forces the Capitol to alter the rules once again, allowing both Katniss and Peeta to be declared winners.

3. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

A year after their triumph in the Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta are living comfortably in District 12. Their actions, however, spark a wave of unrest in Panem, inspiring the districts to consider rebellion.

President Snow (Donald Sutherland), unhappy with these developments, introduces a new twist. For the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell, he decides to force previous winners back into the arena.

This news greatly upsets Katniss. Peeta, on the other hand, steps up without hesitation to re-enter the perilous competition.

Now, with widespread support, Katniss and Peeta become the most celebrated tributes in the Capitol, partly due to their fabricated love story. Once the games start, their goal extends beyond mere survival; they aim to dismantle the arena, hoping to disrupt the Hunger Games forever.

4. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Katniss's daring move to destroy the Hunger Games arena has made her a target for the Capitol. After her rescue, she and other survivors find refuge in District 13, under the leadership of Alma Coin (Julianne Moore), a district filled with government dissenters.

Alma proposes that Katniss become the Mockingjay, a symbol for the rebellion against the Capitol. However, Katniss is initially hesitant, more worried about Peeta's safety as he remains captive in the Capitol. Eventually, she agrees to take on the role of the Mockingjay, but only if Peeta and the other captured victors are rescued and kept safe.

5. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Katniss's journey with her allies from District 13 goes on. She is stunned to find out that Peeta is suffering from severe psychological effects due to the Capitol's brainwashing. With Katniss's support and the medical team's help in District 13, Peeta gradually gets better and joins their mission to take down the Capitol.

Alongside Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Finnick (Sam Claflin), Katniss and Peeta head to the Capitol to bring down the government. As part of the Star Squad, they encounter numerous challenges and confront the Peacemakers. Tragically, Katniss loses both Finnick and her sister, Primrose (Willow Shields), in the struggle.

The rebellion is ultimately successful, but Katniss realizes she has been a pawn in Alma's plans all along. When the time comes to execute Snow, she surprisingly turns her weapon on Alma instead.

After the truth comes to light, Katniss is set free. She marries Peeta, and they have two children, living a peaceful life together.

The Hunger Games series has captured the hearts of many fans who are eager for Suzanne Collins to continue creating captivating tales from the world of the Capitol, Panem, and new tributes. And now, with this guide, you shouldn't have any trouble figuring out the order of the Hunger Games movies. Enjoy your watching!
